Struck by the classical organ music, the audience are instantly aware that this film will have some elements of horror. We are then shown a stormy night with lightening flashing and the rain dropping on the roof tops giving the audience the classical feeling of a horror movie. They are put on edge by this as it raises tension. The camera is tracking across the roof tops to let the audience get a sense of where we are – in a town. Every house has a chimney so this indicates that the movie was set in older times. The sinister music playing in the back ground raises the tension. We are only faced with very dark shots giving the classic scary movie element along with the close up shots showing ambiguous objects. We are then faced, what we think is blood dripping off certain objects which again, raises the tension along with the creaking of the old fashioned cogs. The opening to the film is very dark and dingy paired with the minor key music making the reader feel intense and on edge ready to watch the horror movie. Image
